The sculptural acoustic diffuser for the atrium of the Lycee Francais School, Kensington, London was designed by Wayward Architects to reduce noise levels and add a sculptural feature. This Dalston extension needed an imaginative solution to gain height and space from the small urban plot. MW Architects designed a lightweight double curved, self-reciprocating, cantilevering composite timber roof structure.  The roof curves in both directions, creating two lower corners towards the adjacent neighbour.  The curves also give the roof structural integrity for overhanging to shade the glazed elements. Ramboll designed and built a new covered seating space for Cambridge charity, Papworth Trust, donating their time and expertise to carry out the design and construction. Formed from 15mm thick CNC cut plywood and fixed together with 216 hinges, the canopy spans 5m. Each panel for the canopy was individually decorated on the interior by the clients from the Trust.
